Race Report & Results


Hopes were high for a dry weekend at Round 3 at Silverstone. The Friday test was damp in the morning with some very tricky conditions and unfortunately the #46 Mardi Gras machine had an accident in the first test session and couldn’t be repaired in time for Saturday’s race.

Better weather arrived just in time for Qualifying and the 30 minute session got underway under cloudy but dry conditions.

The early pace was set by John Dickson in the #47 Stratton Motorsport car setting a 2.19. 071. Two laps later Jade Edwards driving the #12 Stratton Motorsport machine put a fantastic lap together setting a new provisional pole position lap of 2.18.275. As the cars pitted to swap drivers it was #12 car quickest with the # 47 car in second and the # 24 Vantage Racing machine in Third with Stuart Hall at the wheel.

Liam Griffin took over the #6 JWB Racing car from brother Kieran, on his first flying lap set a new quickest lap time of 2.17.119 and then bettered it two laps later setting what would become the pole position time of 2.15.976. The fight for second then ensued with Tim Eakin driving the #56 Hills Racing machine trying to chase down the time set by Edwards in the #12 car Stratton Motorsport car. Eakin managed to set a 2.18.215 to take second position away from Edwards on his last flying lap beating the number #12 car by 0.06 of a second.


The race got underway at 14.10 local time under a mostly cloudy sky. There was drama even before the race start as the Hills Racing #56 car was hit by fuel tank problems meaning the car had to start from the pit lane, this was very disappointing after all of Eakins hard work in qualifying to put the car on the front row.

As the lights went out it was L Griffin in the #6 JWB Racing car that led the field into Copse corner being followed very closely by the hard charging Edwards in the #12 Stratton Motorsport car. Third was Chris Kemp driving the #24 Vantage Racing machine, with Tom Black in the #91 car fourth Mike Brown was fifth in the MB Racing #7 machine fighting his way up from 7th on the grid.

By lap 3 Eakin in the #56 car had made his way up to 6th position, pushing very hard after the earlier problems.

By lap 9 L Griffin had built an impressive lead of just over 11 seconds, Edwards was still pushing very hard in second setting some great lap times. On lap 10 there was a coming together between #91 Black and #56 Eakin both cars have to pit with steering damage, the #91 had to retire but the #56 car continued after the Hills Racing team managed to repair the car all be it now 4 laps down on the leaders.

On lap 14 Kevin Norville driving the #27 Track Club car pitted for the his mandatory pit stop swapping over driving duties to Calum Lockie, the car had to serve a penalty for winning the last race at Rockingham and for Lockie being a Silver ranked driver. Lockie started to show real pace and on lap 17 set the fastest lap of the race a 2:14.277

Next to pit on lap 20 was Brown handing over to Paul Cripps in the #7 MB Racing machine. Brown had very busy weekend ahead as he was also competing in the British GT championship in his GT3 car too. The rest of the grid then started to pit for their mandatory stops .

On lap 26 the leader L Griffin pitted after a stunning stint with a 47 second lead to hand over to brother K Griffin to finish the race, the #6 JWB car also had penalties to take as they also had a success penalty from Rockingham and a Silver ranking penalty to take.



All this meant that Edwards now lead all be it for just one lap as she then pitted to swap over to Paul Whight to finish off the driving duties till the end of the race.

After all the pit stops had been completed it was K Griffin now leading with an 18 second lead over Whight, third was Black now driving the #24 car.

Fourth was the #27 of Lockie and lying fifth was the #7 car of Cripps, sixth was the #47 machine with Dickson now at the wheel.

Lockie had been continuing with his blistering pace and managed to get up to a very impressive third position by lap 29. He now set about trying to catch Whight for second.

On lap 32 Black in the #24 Vantage Racing machine had a spin and the power steering pump failed forcing Black back to the pits and into retirement.

On lap 33 Dickson in the #47 had to pit and hand back over to David Tinn as he was not feeling too well.

On lap 38 the #27 car spun under braking and ended up in the gravel at turn 1. The marshals worked very hard as always to recover the car quickly and Lockie re-joined in fifth position.

With only ten minutes remaining it was K Griffin in the #6 JWB machine leading by 32 seconds from the #12 car of Whight, the #7 of Cripps was now in third.

As the race approached the 100 minute mark the positions stayed the same, so it was the Griffin duo who took the chequered flag and a fantastic win, their second of the season, both had driven absolutely faultlessly to claim a commanding victory. Second position went to Edwards and Whight in the Stratton Motorsport car, again both drivers had put in really good solid drives. Third position went to the MB Racing #7 crew of Brown and Cripps they had fought their way up from 7th on the grid to take another well deserved podium.
